The Causes of Black Toenail Fungus

As we have just mentioned, sports people are especially prone to getting the condition. They have a lot of sweat on their feet whilst playing the sport and can also get bruising on their toes which would cause the blackness. As it is an infection, it can also be passed on to others through coming in contact with your feet or where you have stood barefoot. So, people who walk around barefoot, especially in changing rooms, can easily pick up the infection too.

Obviously, if you have the problem yourself then you should seek advice from your doctor. They will tell you what the problem is and what they personally recommend. But the actual treatments they give you might not work very well, as it can be a tough thing to get rid of.

There are also reports that some medications, taken orally, can have really nasty side effects and cause damage to the liver. So you need to be very aware of what you doctor prescribes to you. There are over the counter treatments but the success rate of them is rather low. But might be worth trying if you want to avoid taking stronger medication to treat the fungus.

Prevention

Like most health issues, if you can prevent them from occurring, that is much better than trying to treat the problem once it appears. So make sure that you wash your feet and especially your toes at least once a day. Be sure to dry them very well as if they are damp it can help the fungus to grow. Also try and keep your shoes on as much as possible and not to walk around barefoot.
